RFID: Radio-frequency identification

The full form of RFID is “Radio-frequency identification“. It is a form of wireless communication that incorporates the use of electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in the radio frequency part of the electromagnetic spectrum to uniquely identify an object, animal or person. When activated by an electromagnetic interrogation pulse from a nearby RFID reader device, the tag transmits digital data, usually an inventory identification number, to the reader. RFID is one method of automatic identification and data capture (AIDC).

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) actually works by emitting radio waves. RFID is of two types, one is active and the other is passive. It is used in many sectors for security reasons, such as shopping centers, 5-star hotels, toll plazas, military camps, medical care, manufacturing, inventory management, shipping, retail sales and domestic or home use.
