CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average

The full form of CGPA is “Cumulative Grade Point Average“. It is used in schools and universities to measure a student’s overall academic performance. Students receive grades (A, B, C, D or F). In some countries, grades are averaged to create a grade point average (GPA), which is used to specify just one term. GPAs are generally calculated for high school, undergraduate (UG), and graduate students. A cumulative grade point average (CGPA), sometimes called GPA only, is a measure of a student’s performance in all of their courses.

The Indian education system does follow a CGPA grading scale, however, it is different from the international GPA scale used by schools abroad, such as in the United States (USA), Canada and Australia. International students from schools who follow a different CGPA grading scale may be confused when they switch to a new system, such as Percentage. Students can easily convert CGPA to a percentage by multiplying CGPA by 9.5. For example, if a student’s CGPA is 9.6, it means that the total percentage of marks is 9.5 multiplied by the total CGPA, i.e. the total percentage of marks is 9.5*9.6 = 91.2%.
