Brief History
Email is invented by Ray Tomlinson, the history of modern Internet email services dates back to the beginning of ARPANET, with standards for encoding email messages published in 1973 (RFC 561). Some older email systems required that the author and the recipient be online at the same time, in common with instant messaging. Current email systems are based on a model of storing and forwarding.
