GPA: Grade Point Average

The full form of GPA is Grade Point Average. It is also referred to as a cumulative grade point average (CGPA). It is a scoring system used to measure student performance in an academic session. It is a numerical index that summarizes the academic performance of students in an academic year. The Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated using the number of grade points a student receives in a given period of time. GPAs are generally calculated for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students and can be used by potential employers or educational institutions to evaluate and compare candidates.

Different schools and other educational institutes measure GPA at different scales. Some measure it on a scale of 1 to 5 and others on a scale of 1 to 10. CBSE follows positional grading system where grades are given on basis of the position of the student, if the student is in top 1/8th ranks the grade is A1, next 1/8th A2, next 1/8th B1 and so on.. A student’s GPA is often used to determine academic honors, such as an honor roll, class grade, or Latino honors. Without a doubt, the GPA can be used as a determining factor in the evaluation of a candidate, but it cannot measure his or her efficiency.
