The IRCTC’s slogan is “Lifeline of the nation” and its mission is “To improve customer services and facilitation in railway catering, hospitality, travel and tourism through best industry practices.” It is one of the Miniratna companies of the Central Indian government. It was a pioneer in booking Internet-based train tickets through its website, as well as from cell phones through WiFi, GPRS or SMS. It also provides SMS functionality to check PNR status and Live Train status.
